‘Age of entitlement’ finally over as prince Harry claims $115,000

24 May 2015

British prince Harry, who recently spent a month in Australia, racked up a bill of more than $115,000, according to documents obtained by Fairfax Media.

That’s almost $4,000 per day. And the tab is being picked up by us.

The total includes an estimated $1,000 worth of bottled water and Gatorade – more than $30 worth per day. That’s almost the total amount someone on the dole receives for rent, electricity, food, transport, gas, water and the rest.

What on earth sort of water was this? How much Gatorade could Harry possibly drink?

The “people’s prince” was on secondment with the army and reportedly trained with the SAS. The tough guy also allegedly received $500 “for access to VIP rooms at Sydney and Perth airports” and more than $75,000 to have an evacuation aircraft on standby in case he stubbed a toe or sat on a bull ants’ nest.

“If the Defence estimates prove accurate,” wrote journalist Adam Gartrell, “taxpayers are getting off relatively easy this time. They were charged a whopping $150,000 for prince Harry’s two-night visit to Australia in 2013”.

Yes, the age of entitlement is clearly over.
