Protest at the ALP conference

Protest at the ALP conference

The recent US Supreme Court decision and the referendum in Ireland have given renewed momentum to the marriage equality campaign in Australia.

But if the last 11 years have taught us anything, it is that politicians cannot be relied on to do the right thing. Currently, the numbers in parliament are split; there is no guarantee that the new marriage equality bill will succeed when (or if) it is debated in August.

That is why marriage equality advocates will be rallying at the ALP National Conference – to demand that all Labor MPs vote for equality, and that the party maximise the chances of success by adopting a binding vote on the issue.

Add your voice to the growing calls for equal rights by joining Equal Love outside the Conference at 1pm, Saturday 25 August at the Melbourne Convention Centre.

There also will be rallies taking place for renewable energy and refugee rights, beginning at 11am.
